MBP is pleased to announce that the Tart Cards Special has been purchased by the Sallie Bingham Center for Women’s History and Culture at Duke University (Rare Book, Manuscript, and Special Collections Library).
Edition size: 60 copies
This book is innovatively bound in black and pink satin over boards. The spine is laced with bodice-like black ribbons. Sowing and lace accents in black give further detail and shape, and hot pink end-papers conceal two linen-lined pockets in the back of the book. These pockets contain a collection of tart cards accumulated over the last two years from the streets of London. This PDF file has more images of the book. The book is presented in a black, cloth lined box with hot pink interior. The name of the book is embossed on the side and face of the box.

Richard Minsky was the binder we chose for this project. His experience gained in past and sometimes elaborate book binding projects provided the creative catalyst we needed. Special limited edition bindings, by their nature, are often conservative in their design and construction. But a conservative approach was not appropriate for Tart Cards, and more creative solutions were sought, while keeping in mind that we wanted a book that more or less looked like a book. Richard Minsky, as a pioneer in the field of the book arts, and an imaginative binder of more than thirty years experience (as well as founder of the Center for Book Arts in New York), was a more than appropriate choice.
Contains a letter from the author, Caroline Archer.
