The NYT Examines Books as Interior Design

Here at MBP, we’re used to the idea of art brought together in book form, and, as we are lucky enough to be blessed with a good design team, the idea of the book as art form. But books as interior design? According to The New York Times, that’s the upcoming trend, boasting that books are both customizable in terms of content (which, luckily, some clients do care about), and appearance, as they can be wrapped. Naturally, wrapping books is rubbing some designers the wrong way, and frankly, the notion of books as something to be stared at from afar instead of held and read is a little disconcerting. But then, if it means more print purchases in the digital age, and a hopefully increased chance that someone might actually read books if they’re lying around, perhaps it’s not all bad? You can read The New York Times piece here, and see an example of “Book Solutions,” as it’s being called, already being brought to the masses at Pottery Barn.
