March 31, 2010

We gave you a bit of a whisper about this a few months ago – but now here’s the official announcement, with the details!

Mark Batty Publisher (MBP) is pleased to announce that Random House Publisher Services (RHPS) is selling and distributing the MBP list in the United States and Canada. This new partnership with RHPS, which went into effect January 1, 2010, is an important milestone for MBP, an independent publisher.
Since its inception seven years ago, MBP has been dedicated to producing distinctive books on the visual art of communicating, ranging from graffiti and street art to graphic design, typography and international visual culture. With a backlist of approximately one hundred titles, MBP has grown towards the current publishing program of three titles per month.
“We are thrilled to be working with Mark Batty and selling and distributing their books,” said Jeff Abraham, President of Random House Publisher Services. “Their smart, innovative and very creative approach to publishing is receiving great response from our retailers, and we are confident that ours will be a terrific partnership moving forward.”
“It’s been a great experience to work with the true professionals at RHPS who really get the list and understand what we’re trying to do,” said Mark Batty, MBP’s founder and Publisher. “The multi-pronged approach RHPS uses to sell books through the trade and special markets has impressed me. With sales outside of the US and Canada handled by Thames & Hudson, this is an important last piece of the puzzle, and will take our North American sales to the next level.”
Over the course of 2010 and 2011 MBP will continue releasing approximately 3 titles per month that are true to the house mission of visual, street and current subjects. MBP will also further develop its print-on-demand MBP Academic imprint of typography subjects, and will be creating an illustrated fiction imprint.
