MBP’s book Imposters, by Shawna Kenney, documents, page-by-page, the out-of-work actors and hopefuls who line Hollywood Boulevard dressed up like the celebs of yesteryear and today: Marilyn Monroe, Spider-Man, Spongebob and Superman.

Now, to the screen: filmmaker David Markey, who was interviewed in Kenney’s masterpiece, explores this same world by camera with his upcoming DVD release of The Reinactors.

From the press release:

I am elated to announce The Reinactors DVD is now available for Pre-order. The DVD will be released September 22 in a handsome digi-pack complete with bonus features; a half hour of deleted scenes, the theatrical trailer, bonus feature-ettes “Meet The Reinactors”. “A Wrinkle in the Hollywood Dream”, & “The World Premier @ IFFR” (Rotterdam). The DVD is Region “0″, which means it can play in most countries around the world, and it is close captioned for the hearing impaired. This also happens to be a limited edition DVD, first 500 signed and numbered by yours truly.

The Reinactors is a documentary feature about the misadventures of film character impersonators and celebrity look-a-likes on Hollywood Boulevard. Freddy Krueger works alongside Superman, Marilyn Monroe, Shrek, Lucy, Batman, and Borat. Competing Chewbacca’s, Spidermen and Captain Jack Sparrow’s vie for a spot on the limited real estate of The Walk Of Fame. Recognizable characters and stars of movies are portrayed by anyone who chooses to buy the costume and brave the mean streets of Hollywood. These characters are literally right out of the movies, yet the unforeseen drama of the people underneath the make-up threatens to eclipse the bizarre array of Hollywood film icons they appropriate.
