In DUMBO: New York Photo Festival, May 11-15
May 12, 2011
New York City’s 4th annual Photo Festival commenced yesterday, right here in DUMBO. It runs through the weekend, so there’s still plenty of time to see the sights and catch some of the action. With over 2,000 industry professionals exhibiting their work in the festival’s first year, you can expect that it has blossomed into quite an event here in Brooklyn’s “most creative neighborhood.” After all, the festival was created with the intention of establishing a world-class contemporary photography display, highlighting undiscovered talent, something the United States did not have in place prior to 2008. The festival is the American counterpart to the prestigious European photo festivals Les Rencontres d’Arles, PHotoEspaña, and Visa pour l’image—but we’re just interested in the goods! (We love photography, check it out!) With more than ten locations scattered about, around, and under the Manhattan bridge, in addition to the outdoor walking tour, we think it’s a great way to enjoy the city, the weather, and above all, the art. Check out the NYPH official website for more details.
