One of David Horvitz's Public Access Images

San Francisco Bay gets looked at by David Horvitz

Multimedia artist (and MBP author) David Horvitz is stirring things up on the internet again, this time by ensconcing self-portraits in Wikipedia articles for Public Access. Public Access is more oblique than Everything that Can Happen in a Day, which straightforwardly invited netizens to upload their own artistic contributions to the disembodied gallery that is a Google image search. For the new project, Horvitz drove up the West Coast and photographed himself from behind, as if he were staring off into the distance. Each photograph was taken at a landmark, state park, or other place of marginal interest. After the roadtrip, Horvitz posted the images to the Wikipedia pages for each site. Unsurprisingly, this caused a bit of confusion with the pages’ editors, who chattered away in the comments section trying to make sense of what was going on. Flavorpill has compiled a list of their favorite comments here, or you can take a look at the projects more detailed PDF here.
